Gun Giveaways Acquires TheOpenRange.net Gun Forum – Strengthens Its Position In The Firearms Industry
GunGiveaways.com, the official gun giveaway site, has acquired TheOpenRange.net. The official acquisition date is December 28, 2021.
GunGiveaways’ primary goal is to help Americans protect their families through education about their Constitutional right and social obligation to carry a gun. TheOpenRange.net, one of the Internet’s earliest gun forums was started in 2005.
About TheOpenRange.net
TheOpenRange.net was the go-to resource from 2005 to 2013 covering topics and discussions related to Cowboy and western action shooting.
In the founders own words, the purpose of TheOpenRange.net was as follows:
“We’re all striving to provide a place to come and socialize with your fellow Cowboy Action Shooters and other Old West re-enactors.”
– Founders of TheOpenRange.net
The Open Range was one of the most active firearms destinations in the mid 2010’s, popular topics included:
- Black powder resource topics for apprentices to learn about using, loading and shooting the “original powder”.
- Cowboy-era rifles, shotguns and revolvers
- Making or buying gunleather
- Cowboy gunsmithing from the basics to full competition work
- Casting and reloading
- Cowboy competitions
- Historical and shooting societies
After amassing close to 60,000 forum posts in 6,500 topics by close to 3,000 members, the Open Range forum was closed to member registrations and new posts in 2013.
The forum remained available as a reference for viewing and research until re-launching in early 2021. The re-launch was part of a strategy to expand educational scope, to include modern firearms, hunting, and competitive team shooting sports like airsoft and paintball.
